1 - Oceans
This unit will explore the importance of oceans to human survival. Students will investigate the environmental, economic, and political factors that affect the way our oceans are used by humanity. They will also seek to explore how our oceans can be used more sustainably. It also examines the natural systems that generate tectonic hazards and the social and the political ones that create disasters. Students will investigate the complex nature of one 'natural disaster' which occurs in the ocean environment and they will unpack the multiple factors that influenced its consequences.
Key Concept
Change - How has the human impact on the oceans changed over time?
Related Concepts
Power and Processes - Who owns the ocean? Does having control over aspects of the ocean create a process of change? What processes occur within an ocean environment?
Global Context
Scientific and technological innovation - How have technological advances impact the ocean environment?
Exploration to develop - Systems.
Statement of Inquiry
Scientific and technical innovation create powerful systems which affect the process of change.
