Activity One - Where in the world?

As you know we are going to focus our Interdisciplinary Unit on the city of Pompeii. Therefore we will be exploring plate tectonics and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius along with the devastating impact that it had on the town of Pompeii. Before we get to that point through we need to explore the location of the volcano and why Pompeii was an important town for the Ancient Romans. Answer the following questions in full sentences in your book:

It is important to have knowledge about the landscape of an area to begin to understand why people decided to build where they did. Physical geography has a huge impact on how people lived and learnt to adapt to a place. The natural advantages of an area can also make a city powerful, especially if it has natural resources and an ability to trade with others. 

1. Using the first link in the 'Useful Resources' box under reading, explain the difference between site and situation. 

2. Looking at the landscape of Pompeii by using the image in the 'Useful Resources' box, describe the natural advantages of Pompeii. Use the link the 'To read' section if you need help. Write your answer in your book using full sentences.
