This unit focuses on changing the development of an empire; from monarchy to a republic and finally an empire. It will explore the key events that caused these changes along with the everyday life of the people. The geographical aspect will focus settlement sites, resources and plate tectonics. Ultimately, you will be asked to interrogate Pliny the Younger’s description of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD and the perspective it gives on the society of Ancient Rome. You will create an information booklet outlining a modern understanding of the process of plate tectonics, the importance of archeology in learning about past societies and the development of settlements.
