We discover a lot of the past through archeology. The ways that we try to preserve what we find are crucial for helping to build a story of past civilisations. Everything from what they ate, how they dressed, how they lived can be taken from archeological rich areas. Pompeii gives us a unique lens into the past and over a third has still not been excavated. As a geographer I think it is important to have an understanding of how the urban landscape is created or planned. It helps us to understand how we interacted or interact with that space which gives us information about how humans lived.

We are now going to look a house in Pompeii to discover how people used to live. The layout of a house gives us knowledge of which rooms where important depending on their size, or whether cleanliness, heating or sanitation was a key component of living.
