Define the key term above by using the 'Useful Link' below:
When we explore Ancient Rome we are looking at a period of time over 2000 years ago. In fact, we can look at Ancient Rome by exploring three distinct time frames in its history. The first time frame being the founding of the Roman Kingdom in 753-509 BCE, the second is that of Roman Republic from 509-27BCE and the third the Roman Empire which lasted from 27BCE to 476 CE. A period of time that spans over 1200 years! As you now know it is a challenge to find out exactly how people lived so long ago as the buildings have been replaced and belongings may have decomposed or been destroyed but that doesn't been there is no evidence at all.
Using the images below, what are the clues that archaeologist can use to find out about the past?
What do these clues tell us about Ancient Rome? Consider the dress, buildings, writing, etc.
What do you know about Ancient Rome already? Write a paragraph, 5-7 sentences, describing what you know about Ancient Rome and how you came to know that knowledge. Don't worry if you don't know anything yet, this the point of the unit! There is a writing frame at the bottom of the 'Useful Resources' box to help you with this.
What would you like to know about Ancient Rome? Write down two points.
