Define the key terms above by using the useful links below:
We often take our use of energy for granted. We have never been without it. Except for an electrical storm or a general maintencance check cutting off the power most of us will never have experienced life with limited access to energy. We get up in the morning and expect to switch the lights on, have a hot shower, make breakfast and importantly for Ms. Mart switch the kettle on to make a cup of tea.
List five things that you have used energy for already today.
What source or sources of energy to you think powered that use?
Could you survive without energy today? Explain your answer.
How has our energy use changed over time? Why?
Throughout this unit it has, hopefully, been made the importance of using evidence and data to inform us of what is happening now and to prompt us to consider changing our actions for the future.
Watch the YouTube clip and create a simple timeline which illustrates the dominant energy sources through time.
Working in pairs describe the three graphs.
What trend or pattern can you see?
Include data and or place to help describe.
Is there anything odd? Make sure you illustrate it with data.
Why do you think these changes in energy occur? Try to consider around five reasons. We will then discuss this as a group.
BP
The impact that our energy use has had on the planet has been well documented. Many places have faced warming temperatures, forest fires, sea level changes, a migration of insects which carry disease and a reduction of crop yields. It is therefore the future we need to look towards. We need to estimate what may happen to our planet to devise important and realistic solutions.
Write in the middle of your page 'Energy and Climate Change'.
Collect three different coloured pens.
Choose a colour to document the following points on your page:
How energy use has caused climate change.
The impact that climate change has on humans and the environment.
How Earth could look by 2050 if we do nothing to make a change.
Create a key on your page.
