At the request of one of the team we are initially going to focus on Extreme Environments. It has been a while since you have studied this unit and it can be perceived as the challening unit. Lets dispell that myth.
There was a request to have another go at marking sample student work. We have planned out a lot of essays in the various units but the actual marking process may still seem a bit of a mystery. We are going to mark at least two essays; one from the Extreme Environments unit and another from the Geography of Food and Health. If we have time then I also have a Freshwater essay for you to tackle. Grab your red, pink or green pen and lets get marking!
This is often the area that students find the most daunting or challenging. In fact, if you learn the processes and the resultant landforms found in the different environments it can actually make the potential essay the easiest to write as you don't need the data.
One of the most daunting things in Geography is learning the different case studies, detailed and examples that we have explored. It is then essential to apply them to the EAQs and at times the 6 mark questions. So what is the difference between them and what have we done?
We have done this process before for the Core paper but not for the Optional Themes. Grab yourself a set of coloured pens and a piece of flip chart paper.
Choose one coloured pen.
Write the first four words somewhere on the paper in that one colour. Regular writing size.
Draw a line between the words that link.
On the line that you have just drawn explain the link.
Choose a second coloured pen.
Write the second set of words in that second colour.
Draw a line between the second set of words that link.
Explain the link.
Now cross pollinate. Draw a line between the first and second set of words that link. Explain that link.
Repeat using a different coloured pen each time for the next set of words.
